One Trip Won’t Be Enough: Plan Your Adventure in Johannesburg

Johannesburg

There are some iconic destinations around the globe that are just calling out for your attention and demanding that they go on your must-see list, and one of these places for many of us has to be Johannesburg.

Affectionately known simply as Joburg, there are so many amazing things to see and do there and you will soon discover why it deserves its place on the list of destinations you have to visit.

Here is a look at some of those reasons for planning a trip to Joburg, including a premier wildlife attraction, an important archeological site, a very modern alternative form of entertainment to enjoy, plus some suggested wining and dining hotspots.

The “Big Five” all in one place

Once you have arrived in the area and checked into a hotel like the African Pride Melrose Arch Marriott Hotel you can begin your adventure, and top of your list of things to do has to be the Kruger National Park.

This is South Africa’s largest game reserve and the so-called “Big Five” of game are all there and there is a chance that you will see lions, elephants, rhino, buffalo, and leopards all making the most of the habitat.

The park boasts a world-class conservation program which means there is a lot of diversity and some memorable safari trips to take across some of the 7,700 square miles of Kruger National Park.

The history of our planet

Another fascinating place to visit is the Cradle of Humankind, which is a UNESCO-listed site of huge archaeological significance and interest.

Pay a visit to the Sterkfontein Caves there and see one of the most famous fossil sites on the planet, and see evidence of how our world was shaped billions of years ago.

The best way to see everything when you visit the Cradle of Humankind is to take one of the guided tours that last a full or half day depending on how much you want to see.

A modern entertainment center

If you head north-west out of Joburg you can’t fail to encounter the iconic Sun City Resort.

The place and its ideals have moved on significantly from the 1980’s and there is a lot more to do here besides hitting the casino, as it offers a water park, two 18-hole golf courses and a wealth of other entertainment options.

Sun City is one of those places that people often feel provides an interesting and stimulating alternative experience to the natural wonders that South Africa has an abundance of and is well worth putting on your agenda.

Plenty for your palate

Johannesburg also has plenty to offer in terms of food and drink experiences and you will be able to enjoy some unique culinary experiences in the area.

Head to the Braamfontein area and discover the neighborhood’s market, for example, and you will quickly discover why this two-story brick warehouse is a magnet for foodies.

Jazz is popular in the city and many locals like to hang out in Katzy’s to enjoy the food and the live jazz music most nights of the week. Other food and drink highlights to look out for include Republic of 94, which features a bar that seems to stretch forever, plus Blackanese Sushi, which challenges you to experience a fusion of African and Japanese cuisine.

These are just some of the reasons why one visit to Joburg is never normally enough.
